Cultivating Resources

Thread City Family Garden

Thread City Garden

The Thread City Family Garden was created by the Windham Youth CORE in 2016, with the support of the Town of Windham, CT DEEP, and the Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation. We produce thousands of pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables for the community each season, through the collective effort of our GROW Windham staff, the Windham Youth CORE, and local volunteers. Our garden cultivates food justice, youth power, and the local economy.

Community Table/Mesa Comunitaria

Community Table/Mesa Comunitaria delivers weekly food boxes to over 35 families without access to other resources, focusing on Latino immigrant women and teens in Willimantic. The boxes, filled with food from local farmers, gardeners, and pantries, and supplemented by community fundraising, are packed and delivered by recipients and community members, who receive stipends for their work. This project enhances economic security for low-wealth households and fosters leadership and empowerment by involving community members in organizing and distributing local food resources. Its goal is to become a member-led, self-sustaining pantry and food processing collective.
